A longtime community fixture is getting ready to enjoy its last hurrah. Jug Brown Recreation Center in Enterprise is set to be demolished soon as plans to build a new and improved rec center get underway!
According to reports, residents and staff of Jug Brown Recreation Center in Enterprise are doing their part to prepare a heartfelt goodbye to a facility that has served the community well. In fact, it was once a thriving hot spot for all kinds of activities.
Established in 1958, those walls hold more than 60 years of memories. In its hey-day, Jug Brown Recreation Center was the place to go for swimming, tennis, volleyball, baseball and other city-wide programs.
Plaques are being designed to commemorate memories citizens have of Jug Brown. Residents were invited to submit and share their stories in March for a permanent reminder of the good times had by many. Meanwhile, preparations are underway to tear the building down.
Today, plans are in the works to expand both the facility and the programs offered.
Proposed plans include additional basketball gyms, meeting rooms, better office space, exercise rooms and a brand-new pool!
The staff is currently preparing to begin the temporary move to the Enterprise Civic Center. After the demolition of Jug Brown, construction on the upgraded facility will begin.
According to the Enterprise Parks and Recreation Department’s latest news, the staff hopes to be settled in the Civic Center by September, which is where they can be contacted in the future.
Current and upcoming programs will continue as planned. However, the “where” may change. You can keep up with that information and more by connecting with Parks and Rec on Facebook.
