Enterprise Was Selected as the Site of a New Veterans Home

Soon, the Wiregrass will welcome a new building with our veterans in mind. Enterprise was selected as the site of a new veterans home by the Alabama State Board of Veterans Affairs. That could prove to be a major boon for the whole region.

The Southeast Alabama Veterans Home

While not officially named as of yet, the Southeast Alabama Veterans Home will lay claim to 108 acres between U.S. Hwy 84 and Alabama Hwy 167. The city of Enterprise bought this plot of land in late 2018.

Estimates for the new veterans home peg it as a $60 to $65 million dollar project, with an 182,000 square foot construction. It will employ 250 individuals and accommodate roughly 175 residents within its walls.

Why Enterprise

Multiple factors went into why the city acquired the honor. The region’s high per capita veteran population served as one reason why Enterprise was selected as the site of a new veterans home. In fact, Enterprise eclipses all other locales in the state for per capita veterans. Other reasons, including proximity to hospitals and industry, also swayed the decision to opt for Enterprise.

Municipalities from all over the southeastern portion of the state vied for the new project. Troy, Opp, Ozark, Eufaula, Geneva, Daleville Dothan, among others, were all in the running. Because of careful planning—and a host of reasons including medical presence, access to major roadways, and more–Enterprise took the top spot.

The new veterans home should open its doors sometime in 2023. The Veterans Administration and the state of Alabama will finance the project. This new home will be the state’s fifth veterans home. Pell City, Alexander City, Huntsville, and Bay Minette are the other Alabama sites with veterans homes.

Summary

It’s an honor for Enterprise to be given this opportunity. Everyone deserves a home, especially those who served and sacrificed.
