The Alabama State Board of Veterans Affairs (SBVA) recently made an exciting announcement. The public is invited to participate in naming the new veterans home in Enterprise.

Quick Recap

Coffee County residents and those interested in state veterans affairs may remember the news that the county was selected as the site for the fifth state veterans home almost a year ago. The City of Progress was chosen for several reasons. For a quick recap, read the blog we published about the new veterans home in Enterprise.

Next Step

Now the new veterans home needs an official name. The public is being called upon to help. According to a recent article in The Southeast Sun, the single-story, 182,000-square-foot building will be designed by Williams Blackstock Architects out of Birmingham.

When it comes to naming the new veterans home in Enterprise, there is much to consider. For example, the submission must meet certain guidelines presented in a written proposal. Those guidelines include appropriate topics for a proposed name.

What’s in a Name?

We’ve all heard it before. What’s in a name? In this case, it needs to relate to one of three things. First, it can tie in the geographic location of the new home. Second, it can recognize a significant project contributor. Third, it can honor a veteran from the area.

One factor each suggestion must have in common is in keeping with spirit of the veterans. The proposed name should represent the characteristics of honor and integrity. Find more information here. Submit proposals by noon on June 14, 2021.

How to Submit a Proposal

Proposals should be submitted to SBVA Secretary Wendi Findley at [email protected] or mailed to the following:

State Board of Veterans Affairs
P.O. Box 1509
Montgomery, AL 36102
